262; Wonder if Pynchon's niece had any influence on these passages with Lake, Deuce, Sloat? Also recalls Frenesi and Brock in Vineland, but rougher.
This is a long shot: One can't help noticing that the letters of Lake's name are taken from "Elektra". On the other hand, Elektra Lake is not! Instead of goading her brother to kill her father's murderer (murderers, in this case), she does the opposite. (I'm avoiding a spoiler here. Is that necessary on the discussions?)
