On page 896 Pynchon writes: "Somehow, I alone, for every single wrong act of my life, must find a right one to balance it..." Could it be that Pynchon refers in this sentence (and even more the following ones) to the British author B. S. Johnson and his novel "Christie Malry's Own Double-entry" (1973), where Johnson creates the concept of a moral double-entry system...
