McVeety's appearance, on page 342, "carrying what appeared to be a sack of soup bones" apparently in hopes of attracting "unsigned dog acts" for the illegitimate stage, recalls Pointsman's entry in Gravity's Rainbow on page 42, trying to catch a dog.
